Our Appeal

Ten years ago, Bobby McMahon volunteered to spend a week at camp. He came back every year since, and eight seasons ago fell in love with one of our volunteer nurses, Julie. Bobby and Julie got married, and as the years went by Julie became our director of nursing as well as a member of our medical advisory board.

Bobby McMahonBobby served as a combination cheer leader and role model for the kids, most recently giving a demonstration in courage. As everyone watched with bated breath, Bobby stepped into the harness, put on a a red safety helmet and went for the first ride on the new, forty-foot tall giant swing at camp. A roar went up as he arced over the lake, and he glowed with pride as he watched the kids, one by one, follow his example.

Bobby and Julie brought their two-year-old to camp this summer, and announced that they had another child on the way.

On September 11th, Bobby, along with three hundred forty-two other members of the New York City Fire Department, died in a desperate attempt to save others.

When Julie asked us to give her "lots" of envelopes so she could give to camp donations she received in Bobby's name, we cried.

Her contribution to our mission has always been awesome and so has yours. Please think of us during this season of giving.

Cordially,

Kurt Struver
