Maureen is currently the founding principal of Hawtree Creek Middle School School in Queens, NY. Prior to opening the school in 2013, she earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Fordham University.

Maureen began her teaching career with the New York City Department of Education in 1992 and since then has taught internationally and in Southern California. Upon returning to NY in 2008, she became a founding member and assistant principal of a middle school on Staten Island. In 2012, she wrote and submitted a proposal to the New York City Department of Education to open a new middle school with a focus on college and career readiness.

Maureen’s involvement in camp was the direct result of her brother’s time as a camper from 1986 until his passing in 1991. She first started as a volunteer in 1991 and between 1991 and 2006 served as pool director, assistant director, and camp director. Maureen knew how much her brother looked forward to camp every summer and believed that “going to camp” was his motivation for wanting to get better every year.
